Ackadia is a huge help-file for my family, friends and any and all visitors. It is updated as often as I can and will eventually hold over 10,000 pages of information.

If any of my links are broken or start with pop-ups and "inappropriate" adverts please let me know and I'll remove them instantly. Ta!

Updates Jan 2004

This month I am concentrating heavily on: the Anti-spam section.

I am also working on help files for the Arantha MUD

New pages and sections this month include:

Domain ~ what's in a name - Domain valuation, name generators and more.
Character Codes (7 pages)

Ackadia's forum ~ I've finally put in a decent Forum!

I was going to wait until I was happy with it but I've had a commercial forum for six months and not released it. Anyway, for now it's mostly a straight install of phpBB until I get a minute to reconfigure the style and setup, but it is live and ready for users.
Feel free to post any thoughts, queries or requests for help.

My favourite site this month is:

Capital Community College's Guide to Grammar and Writing and Principles of Composition.

It has been a long time since I truly sat up and said "Blimey (or words to that effect), that's impressive!" about a website and really, really meant, but here's one. I was looking for something to teach my kids the proper use of apostrophes.... What I found is an almost, in not, a definitive guide to good grammar. The list is exhaustive and includes, to name but a few: Abstract nouns, adverbs, apostrophes, gerunds vs infinitives, subjunctives and transitive verbs:

Their interactives online quizzes are also essential viewing in my books. Can't recommend this educational site enough!

Design statement

Ackadia is optimised for 800x600 or better and, I think, looks best at 1024x768.
This site has been tested successfully on multiple platforms and browsers, although very old ones like Netscape 4x may have problems due to their limited CSS support.

I have also used Vischeck's colour blindness simulation and other resources so that Ackadia will hopefully be equally useful and enjoyable for all our colourblind visitors.

I am continuing to work to make Ackadia fully comply to the W3C WAI and similarly comply to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 and to U.S. Section 508 Guidelines
*Note only the home page is 100% WAI validated, but all pages have validated free of any critical errors.

By validating and rating Ackadia I am working to make this site accessible to all. I am also looking at support for Internet phones, text to speech and related techologies. If you are in these fields, drop me a line.
