Glossary of broadband terminology: G
- G.703
-
.
- Gigabits Per Second
-
A measure of bandwidth capacity or transmission speed. It stands for a billion bits per second.
- G.LITE
-
g.lite DSL is an ATM based ADSL standard - see also DMT
It can allow over subscription since stat muxing is taking place in the DSLAM. Actual bandwidth would be determined by the amount of memory for buffering and the flexibility of the ATM buffering management system i.e. sharing CBR buffer allocated memory with UBR traffic. Packet services usually employ concentration ratios of 10:1 and still maintain their QoS. So the Bandwidth provided by DSL service providers depends on the equipment they deploy. g.lite products generally require micro-filters at each telephone port.
G.lite has been standardized by the ITU-T (formerly known as CCITT) as Recommendation G.992.2.
In principle, all equipment built to standard will interoperate and the UAWG initiated an interoperability event where all G.lite based equipment vendors can participate.
- Graphical User Interface
-
A program interface that takes advantage of the computer's graphics capabilities to make the program easier to use.
