COMPUTER HARDWARE MANUFACTURERS

This will be moved to a far, far larger database as some as I have the time to spare!

<-- Back to the Manufacturer Index

CPU'S
[Δ]
AMD Used to be an Authorised reseller for them. A number of resellers I know still swear by them for speed and moreso value for money. Me, I think the current Athlon's and even the Durons run far too hot for my liking.

I will be watching their 64 bit Operons closely though.
ARM .
Centaur .
Cyrix Relegated to also rans now but at one point a few years back they had a good market share. I seem to recall one of their chips stomping all over the far more expensive Pentium 90's in all the tests we ran
Digital Semiconductors - Alpha Whose Alpha chip became Compaq's, who became HP and thereafter appear to be quietly dying out in favout of Intels Itanium 2's...
Evergreen Technologies .
Fujitsu .
Gainbery .
IBM .
[ www.winchip.com] IDT Try also IDT direct although IDT have long since stopped making PC CPU's
Intel Whatever else you say about them, they know how to make chips and how to drive the market.

I know what the RISC guys say, but however you cut it, you sure don't find a Sun workstation in every home...

The Chinese have a new 100Ghz 128bit processor lined up though. OOOOh
Kingston Technology .
MIPS Technologies .
Motorola .
Nat Semi [Check link!].
NexGen [Check link!] - If I recall they where taken over by AMD around 1996
PMC-Sierra (Originally had 'Quantum Effect Design' here.)
ST Microelectronics I'll have to look where they are up to but they used to do a lovely ranged with embedded mpeg.
Sun Sparc Very fast, very nice RISC

And ain't haven't they just started to join the train using Intel processors in high end servers...
Texas Instruments .
Zilog .
