One surprisingly good source of wave files are Windows Plus! themes, like those found at ThemeDoctor - Desktop themes and reviews
Another good source - with the general benefit of being freeware / royalty free - are clipart collections from companies like Corel and IMSI. I think they like to add them to the web art to boost the file count past the 100,000 or even the 1,000,000 count.
I've a friend with masses of info of .WAV files so I'll get it off him sometime, in the meantime, here's one of two sites of interest.
Media files eat bandwidth, so don't be surprised if these links end up broken.
