Introduction
Another page I need to work on, eh. I'll get on it soon, hopefully!
System enhancements and tweaking
...as he happily carves the sides out of a perfectly good server case to add perspex and wind flashing disco lights around the liquid helium cooling on Pentium 4 3.02Ghz screaming in agony at 3.8Ghz...
Not on my system, matey, but it does happen. I'm more interested in sensible enhancements like acoustic matting and ultra quiet fans that improve the quality of my time typing.
I do know a few Uber-overclockers though so links will go in for those of you interested in frying your chips inside custom cases.
July 2003
Here's one to watch for, Dennis publishing are putting out a new title dedicated to modders - "Custom PCs". Expect it on the shelves on August 28th.
(Sept 24th 2002) This tidbit from Creative peaked my interest:
Creative are test-marketing a line of "ultra-quiet components," dubbed "Slix". They are working with OEMs to try to minimize fan noise and other distractions. According to a press release issued by Creative's worldwide headquarters in Singapore, the Slix line will likely include a specially-designed PC case with an integrated water-cooling system for the microprocessor.
"The Slix ultra-quiet component concept is a way Creative hopes to show the PC builders and system integrators how to build a very quiet PC, which would be very important for the PC's move into the living room as an entertainment device"
Slix update April 3rd 2003
Can't say I'm impressed! I was under the impressive they were working on new technologies to quieten systems and reduce fan noise, instead they appear to have wasted their time testing the market with a shoe-box sized system. Folk, me in particular, don't really want another pre-build solution, we want the one's we have now and future builds to our own spec. I am sorely disappointed with Creative over this!
