COMPUTER TRADE SUPPLIERS

NOTES:

This page is intended for UK based System Resellers, Computer Dealers, VARS etc. who either have or would like an account with the wholesale distributers that follow.

See also the A - Z of Manufacturers - organised by product category.

June 2004
I will get round to it eventually, honest, but I'm moving it to a trade specific domain I have!
*cough*

Meanwhile, here's a joke I found amusing, if all too true...

A customer sent an order to a distributor for a large amount of goods totaling a great deal of money. The distributor, noted that the previous bill hadn't been paid. The collections manager left a voice-mail for them saying "We can't ship your new order until you pay for the last one."The next day the collections manager received a collect phone call "Please cancel the order. We can't wait that long."

August 2003
Later this month, or early September I am moving this to a database and (finally) putting all the entries in...

May 2003
Read something fastinating t'other week. Some company is selling lists of distributers - for up to £3,000 a pop.
Hmmm. £3,000 or free here? Tough question, eh. Suppose I'd better get on with it. I did actually get a lot of them written then I figured some git would copy it and claim "all my own work". Anyway, he tuts I'm moving Ackadia's trade section to another site and will put all the contacts into a searchable database. When it's ready I'll email all the trade magazines and let y'all know. Unless I get hammered on bandwidth usage it will remain "my" resource and as such banner, ad and (absolutely) pop-up free!

If, like Light Computer Systems you contact me I will unashamedly give presidence to first come, first served (Subject to a glance at your website, naturally).

Apparently there are some 15,000 distributers worldwide. I intend to list them all. I already have all the English and most of the European ones. I'll have to work on Australasia and North America...

I did have notes going back to the late 90's, but... Moved, bankrupt, phoenixed, jailed for fraud, swallowed, merged.  .You get the idea. Suffice to say I filled a recycling skip with all the outdated paper records!

September 2002
Still in the UK for the foreseeable so I might as well get round to typing up all these resources. Depending on other workloads it will take around 2-3 months but it will be a definitive guide to distributers in Europe. If you want adding or extra information, just ask, t'is free for the taking.
Depending how it goes, I might bring ackadia.co.uk online and move all the trade information there.

June 2000
So far I'm not getting a lot of feedback, added to which I've long since lost count of the number of dealers and distributers - including multi-nationals - that have gone bust. We'll see...
What I will do though is add a list of promotional goods suppliers - badges, mousemats etc.

Near as I can figure it there are approximately 3,000+ "wholesalers" in the UK serving 15,000-25,000 dealers, consultants etc.   It will take me some time to list all the sites available, so a little input here wouldn't hurt.
I'll begin adding links end Jan '99 and will add a submit form and guestbook shortly to facilitate any input.  One or two lists of said UK dealers are available elsewhere of the net and I'll put links in to these later.

As I hope to return to Canada this fall I'd appreciate any input to help put together a similar page together for Canada & the USA.

The level of access granted varies with each site.  I will grade them at a later date, but as an indication, the levels are as follows:

  1. Password required to enter site
  2. Password required to access prices / deeper pages
  3. Open access, but no prices / rrp / rsp shown only (Recommended Retail / Street Price)
  4. Open access, but account must be opened to make purchases.
  5. Full access, but account manager &/or regular purchases recommended for better discounts.
The last bit applies to all above :-)

AGP
"AGP is a trade-only premiere specialist provider of data storage, peripherals and solutions to a variety of PC business throughout the United Kingdom and Europe."

I used to like these guys. They were taken over by Micro P though (on June 7th 2001) and I have a healthy disregard for them. By my recollection, the place is run by suits and the prices for the most part left no margin. In fact 9 times out of 10 I found I could get better prices from off the page resellers.
