« Planescape Torment Solution »

Introduction
I've completed this now!
I've worked out the optimium way to play, completed virtually every available quest so far and found access to vast amounts of coinage - without cheating. I'm currently replaying as a Fighter to fill in all the details I missed as a Mage.
IMPORTANT
Naturally HOW you play and which characters are in the party makes a big difference. However, there is another you probably aren't aware of - Specialisation Bonuses.
The first time you reach level 7 in a class you gain appropriate ability bonuses.
A fighter with Strength 18 will become Strength 19 - NOT 18/30 :-)
This is repeated at level 12 and, perhaps, at level 20 (I forget).
At level 12 your fighter gains Constitution, Dexterity and Strength. A mage gains Intelligence, Wisdom and, I think, Dexterity. Not tried the thief yet.
ALSO, tattoos appropriate to that specialisation become available, at a price.
This is the other important bit, this is a once off shot! You DON'T get three lots of bonuses for reaching level 12 as a Fighter, A mage and a Thief - I tried :-)
At the end of the game I had the following stats: (And I "wasted" points climbing percentile points from 18, 18/30 etc!)
- Strength 25
- Wisdom 23 (25 with tattoo)
- Intelligence 22 (25 with tattoo)
- Dexterity 20
- Charisma 14 (13 - due to spell?)
- Constitution 17
- *
- Hit Points 213
- AC 9 (-9 with dexterity, rings etc)
- *
- Mage - Level 38, nearly 39
- Thief - Level 10, nearly 11
- Fighter - Level 9, nearly 10
- *
- time 49 days and 4 hours
- kills 972
- Mage kill experience 3,061,625
- Mage total experience 10,741,483 ie over 7,000,000 for quests and questions...
I believe I have found every spell with the (possible) exception of 2 - Conflagration and Guardian Mantle
The only factions I joined (first time around) are the Sensates and the Godsmen, no doubt the others - Harmoniums, Anarchists etc will yield other options.
For the Modron, I found 6 or 7 eye-pieces and nearly as many projectiles, but I was unable to find any new crossbows.
I was similarly unable to find any weapons for Ignus, Vhailor, Dak'kon (understandably), nor the parties Priestess, Fall-From-Grace.
There is a slot for a "hand" which I never used - to my annoyance, nor does there appear to be any armour for the Nameless One.
My only real gripe with the game is that compared to Baldurs Gate, the sound effects are cr*p - non-existant in many cases!
Where are all the atmospheric echoes and footsteps? A major, major spoiler for me and a real let-down.
The spells though...
I think I've discovered half a dozen bugs, some of which the v1.1b beta patch didn't fix.
HOWEVER, the updated one may help. You'll have to see Bioware for the patches now as Interplay [ www,Interrplay.com ] are history now.
Possible bugs include:
- Unexpectedly dropping out into Windows, especially during battles involving spells
- System hanging (with v1.1b and v1.1)
- Items dropped inside buildings tend to disappear when you return, those left outside tend don't.
- If you have Strength of 19+, Improved Strength (etc) seems to lower it to 18.
- Certain merchants - notably the Curiosity Shop - will catch thieving attempts EVERY time, regardless of pick-pocket skills.
- Anomalies like Lore skill and thieving abilities DROPPING when you rise in levels, then correcting themselves of the next increase. (v1.1 seems to have sorted this).
- Interestingly, if you increase Constitution to high levels it gives to the added bonuses for ALL previous levels. Thus, at the end, my HP went from 99 to 213 in an instant!
Talking of endings - happily, there's actually at least seven different endings, depending what items you carry and how you played the game. No spoilers, but here's the alteratives.
- You die (duh!). Game over man!
- You kill the Transcendental One and are sent to the Abyss to atone
- You Raise a party member, then kill the Transcendental One, then go to the Abyss to atone.
- You Raise all party members, then kill the Transcendental One, then go to the Abyss to atone.
- You kill yourself - with a special knife
- You kill yourself - by believing you never existed!
- You become one with the Transcendental One, Raise your party members, then it's off to the Abyss to atone.
Those of you who followed my Baldurs Gate solution will know what to expect.
If this wasn't quick enough in coming, blame Interplay who - AGAIN - released a prime title a month late in Europe...
I am typing up sections daily, the date below is but a guideline - I've another 50 odd pages of notes to type up and code yet! Then I've got to do the quests and walk-through and re-play a final time as a Thief!
