« A diary of hospital life following a diagnosis of acute kidney failure »
Monday, 11th September 2006: Consultants ponder my condition,
*** Diary index ***
I remain an enigma!
Ultrasound in the morning (9:30am)
Seen by two teams of doctors and consultants today from renal and from urology. They all seem to agree there was (probably) a blockage that the catheter cleared, but there is a great deal of discussion as to the underlying cause, conditions and eventual cure.
The problem lies in the fact I can almost pinpoint to the day when the bladder problems started and because previous medical tests show no problems of renal nephrosis / signs of kidney failure.
(c.f. Acute vs. Cronic Kidney Failure)
Further to this, for a simple blocked plumbing, the kidneys should have righted themselves quickly, flushing the accumulated toxins in a matter of hours. The creatinine is continuing to improve, only very slowly. They are going to refer to Dr Steiger (my neurology consultant) to see if perhaps it is a neurological issue.*
*[ Jury is still out on that one. The answer is possibly so, but maybe not! It is a known problem with many HSP sufferers, but that is a very slow process, taking years, not mere weeks.]
