Promoting and submitting your website
June 2005
This section is a mess, I'll tidy up the pages in a week or so when I go through this directory again
See also my Guide to promoting your site under Web Design, especially as it relates to coding and writing websites with promotion in mind.
Over the next "n" weeks / months / years I will again go through all the decent search engines at SearchEngineWatch adding Ackadia to the various engines and do a quick review from a submission point.
Another good sight to watch for SEO is Search Engine Lowdown.
On the links side, start with Jill Whalen's HighRanking - Helping sites be the best they can be.
It classes itself as a "virtual treasure trove of search engine optimization, information and advice" (Used to be known as the Rankwrite Roundtable)
Also noteworthy is Okanagon University Colleges' [ www.sci.ouc.bc.ca/libr/ross.html#search" ] Search Engine page (Especially so as I used to live in that beautiful section of Canada)

Ackadia results
This will be an irregular test - as and when I remember, I'll search for keywords on sundry engines and see what differences we get.
September 27th, 2004. : Searched for 'Colourblindness'
Notes: This is a good guideline as it is a single word and an extremely common condition that affects 1 in 12 men. It's easy to get a top rank if you enter a made up word like, say 'WuggahumpyMog' but you try it with something 500 million people suffer with...
Given this is a tiny section relating to web design for the colourblind out of the thousand(s) of pages in Ackadia, I personally am rather pleased with the results!
Results:
1 and 2 with Google.co.uk
4 with Google.com (3 another day)
4 with Lycos.co.uk
5 and 6 with Yahoo.co.uk
6 and 7 with AltaVista.co.uk (which uses the Overtures/Yahoo engine)
21 and 26 with AlltheWeb (which uses the Yahoo engine)
22 with Excite.com (Amazing, but excite.co.uk had JUST 2 results, neither me!)
22 and 28 with AltaVista.com (which also uses the Overtures/Yahoo engine)
28 with Yahoo.com
34 and 42 with Lycos.com (Love the way Lcos number the links!)
() with MSN.co.uk - Search refuses to run, return to the home page
33 with MSN.com
37 and 40 with Lycos.com
64 with webcrawler.com
Review: Li' Engine
Can't say how reliable this tool from SEO site Li'l Engine is as it got null results for entries I'd thought reasonably highly ranked, but ranked me in the top ten on several other, largely unique keywords. Certainly I found it interesting enough to add...
It got the Google Rank of '5' right on the mark, but I don't hold any faith in Google Ranking any a reliable guide to, well, anything!
There's is an option to include the code on your page but I found it slow loading and it includes the caveat:
All code MUST be included
I don't think so, besides it's an inaccessible table, it include this gem:
[ bgcolor="006699"
] which isn't even valid, it should be [ bgcolor="#006699" ]
Promotion companies
Caveat: Please note, as with everything else on Ackadia, unless I emphatically endorce something I believe in, like CSE HTML Validator or TextPad, these links are for you to make your own mind up about. - Paul

Peachpit Press" - Again by Peachpit Press is:

This is a decent read with some excellent pointers.
