Engineering

Introduction

Bit rushed today but I will work on this seection a lot more over the next week or so. For now it looks are the benefits of choosing to specialise in Gnome or Goblin engineering. I will shortly add a guide to levelling up the profession from 1 to 375, and where to buy or farm all the BoP and BoE schematics.

Choosing between Goblin and Gnome Engineering Specialisation

Note: Unless otherwise stated, the schematics are learnt from the trainer.

Items only Goblin specialised engineers can craft

(205) Goblin Sapper Charge
Use: Explodes when triggered dealing 450 to 750 Fire damage to all enemies nearby and 375 to 625 damage to YOU.
Ummm! Smiley in denial

() Goblin Rocket Fuel Recipe (BoE recipe from Nixx Sprocketspring)
(Note:Requires Alchemy 210)
Any race/class Engineer can specialize either way, so Gnomes can be Goblin engineers and Orcs Gnome engineers.
Only Goblin Engineers can make the Goblin Rocket Fuel Recipe though, that is then learned by (any) alchemist so they can make the actual rocket fuel.

The recipe can be learned from Nixx Sprocketspring, Master Goblin Engineer, in Gadgetzan. As engineer you have to make the recipe (using blank parkment and engineers ink) and then find an alchemist to use the recipe and make the fuel for you.
Technically this is the first 'Inscription' and presumably forms the code base for Inscriptions when Wrath of the Lich King ships.

(205) Schematic: Pet Bombling
Give you the design to make yourself a (BoP) pet bomb!
Rare drop from (repeatedly) renewing your goblin engineering membership

(205) Goblin Mortar
Inflicts 383 to 517 Fire damage and stuns the targets in a 5 yard radius for 3 sec.

(205) Goblin Construction Helmet
44 Armor and +15 Fire Resistance
Use: Absorbs 300 to 500 Fire damage. Lasts 1 min.
Cloth, but that works! Score 1 to the Goblins

(205) Goblin Mining Helmet
190 Armor, +15 Stamina, Equip: Mining +5
Mail, but that does NOT really work! Own goal to to the Goblins. If it was at least leather…

(230) Goblin Bomb Dispenser
Creates a mobile bomb that charges the nearest enemy and explodes for 315 to 385 fire damage.
Cooldown: 30 min

(130) Goblin Rocket Boots
Use: These dangerous looking boots significantly increase your run speed for 20 sec. They are prone to explode however, so use with caution.
Just as well with speed potions, I think

(240) Goblin Dragon Gun
Deals 61 to 69 fire damage for 10 sec to all targets in a cone in front of the engineer using the weapon. That is unless it explodes…
Cooldown: 5 min

(245) Goblin Rocket Helmet
+15 Stamina
Use: Charge an enemy, knocking it silly for 30 seconds. Also knocks you down, stunning you for a short period of time. Any damage caused will revive the target. Chance to fizzle when used against targets over level 60.
Cooldown: 20 min
Hmmm, useful I guess

(265) Goblin Jumper Cables XL (BoE drop)
Use: Jumper Cables will sometimes be able to shock a dead player back to life. Cannot be used when in combat.

Apparently the Goblin Jumper Cables XL have a 50% chance of success, compared to the regular Goblin Jumper Cables (33% chance of success).
They share a cooldown those, so you can't use one, then try the other, sadly.
Still, score 1 to the Goblins
From: Plugger Spazzring in the bar in Blackrock Depths drops it (15%), or you can look in Auction house.

(260) Dimensional Ripper - Everlook (Trainer in Everlook)
Trinket
Use: Rips the dimensional walls asunder and transports you to Everlook in Winterspring. There are technical problems that sometimes occur, but that's what Goblin Engineering is all about!
Cooldown: 4 hrs
Trainer: To learn this see Zap Farflinger, the goblin standing next to the transporter in Everlook

Transporter side effects here include:

(350) Goblin Rocket Launcher
Trinket
+45 Stamina
Use: Fire a powerful rocket at the enemy that does 960 to 1440 damage and stuns them for 3 sec. This thing has quite a kick though…
Cooldown: 2 min
Nice. Another point to the goblins!

(350) Dimensional Ripper - Area 52
Trinket
Use: Rips the dimensional walls asunder and transports you to Area 52 in Netherstorm. There are technical problems that sometimes occur, but that's what Goblin Engineering is all about!
Cooldown: 4 hrs
Trainer: To learn speak to Kablamm Farflinger at Area 52.

Transporter malfunction side-effects here include:

(350) Foreman's Enchanted Helmet (Epic)
Cloth, 132 Armor, +48 Stamina, +30 Intellect
Equip: +10% Stun Resistance.
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 36.
Nice for healers and Warlocks too. Score a point for goblins.
Expensive, but given you can wear it at a relatively low level, it's tempting for some.

(375) Foreman's Reinforced Helmet (Epic)
Mail, 550 Armor, +30 Agility, +48 Stamina
Equip: Increases attack power by 62.
Equip: Increases your chance to resist Stun and Disorient effects by 10%.
Nice for hunters. Score a point for Goblin engineers.
Again, expensive, but given you can wear it at a relatively low level, it's tempting for some.

NOTE: I think there may be other Goblin recipes available, these are just the ones I can find!

Items only Gnome specialised engineers can craft

() Inlaid mithril cylinder
Teaches you how to make an Inlaid Mithril Cylinder. This item is used by Gnomish Engineers.
Used by Gnomish Engineers to reinforce their creations
Similar to the 'Goblin Rocket Fuel Recipe' only Gnome Engineers can make these plans, which are then used by a blacksmith (of 200 skill) to craft the actual part.

Alliance can learn this in Ironforge, but I relief the are trainers in Booty Bay and Ratchet teach it too, so Horde it is available for Horde as well.
Technically this to is the first 'Inscription' and presumably forms the code base for Inscriptions when Wrath of the Lich King ships.

(205) Schematic: Lil' Smoky
Gives you the design to make yourself a (BoP) pet robot.
Rare drop from (repeatedly) renewing your Gnomish engineering membership.

(205) Gnomish Shrink Ray
Use: Shrinks the target reducing their attack power by 250. That's what it usually does anyway.
Cooldown: 5 min
(trainer)
That works. Score 1 to the Gnomes!

(210) Gnomish Net-o-Matic Projector
Use: Captures the target in a net for 20 sec. The net has a lot of hooks however and sometimes gets caught in the user's clothing when fired.
Cooldown: 10 min
That works. Score another 1 to the Gnomes!
Gnome rogue can escape if snared, mages can blink away. As a gnome rogue, works for me

(210) Gnomish Goggles
(cloth) 45 Armor, +9 Stamina, +9 Spirit
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 11.
8 more recipes to look at and for me the Gnomes have already won the toss!

(215) Gnomish Harm Prevention Belt
Leather, 66 armour, +6 Stamina
Use: A shield of force protects you from the next 500 damage done over the next 10 min. WARNING: Force Field may overload when struck temporarily removing the wearer from this dimension.
And another decent one for the Gnomes!

(225) Gnomish Rocket Boots
Cloth, 41 Armor
Use: These boots significantly increase your run speed for 20 sec. WARNING: Their power supply and gyros do not always function as intended.
Cooldown: 30 min
Not greatly impressed but at least they don't explode like the goblin ones. Again, there's potions that do as good

(230) Gnomish Battle Chicken
Use: Creates a Battle Chicken that will fight for you for 1.50 min or until it is destroyed.
Cooldown: 30 min
That work, There are the Mithril Dragons and others but this is good too. Another score for the gnomes!

(215) Gnomish Mind Control Cap
Cloth, 50 Armor, +14 Spirit
Use: Engage in mental combat with a humanoid target to try and control their mind. If all works well, you will control the mind of the target for 20 sec ... Increased chance of failure when used against targets over level 60.
Another interesting and useful one for the gnomes!

(240) Gnomish Death Ray
Trinket
Use: The device charges over time using your life force and then directs a burst of energy at your opponent.
"Death or Serious Injury may result from use of this device."
Cooldown: 5 min
The longer you engage it the more it drains from you and the more it hurts the target on firing.

(260) Gnomish World Enlarger (BoE drop)
Use: Enlarges the entire world for 5 min or until you attack. (! hour cooldown)
Only Gnomish Technology could invent a device that affects the entire world!
Actually, what it does is shrink you. Not tried it myself, but apparently if you use the Shrink Ray on an enemy - and it backfired - then use this you practically disappear, especially if you are a Gnome to start with.
From: BoE drop from Weapon Technicians in Blackrock Depths. (Low drop rate)

(265) Gnomish Alarm-O-Bot (BoE drop)
Use: Summons an Alarm-O-Bot for 10 minutes that occasionally sends out a pulse that detects nearby stealthy or invisible enemies.
(BoE drop: weapon technicians in Blackrock Depths)

(265) Ultrasafe Transporter: Gadgetzan (Learn in Gadgetzan)
Trinket
Use: Safely transport yourself to Gadgetzan in Tanaris! Emphasis on Safe! Yup, nothing bad could ever happen while using this device!
Cooldown: 4 hrs
Trainer: To learn this see the Gnome standing next to the transporter in Gadgetzan
Side effects here include:

(325) Gnomish Flame Turret
Use: Quickly constructs a gnomish flame turret at your feet that will nearly always attack nearby enemies.
Cooldown: 1 min

(340) Gnomish Poultryizer
Trinket
+45 Stamina
Use: Turns the target into a chicken for 15 sec. Well, that is assuming the transmogrification polarity has not been reversed.
Cooldown: 5 min
Another brilliant device for gnomekind. Pity it's not for 45 seconds like the mage's Polymorph mind!

(350) Ultrasafe Transporter: Toshley's Station (See trainer in Station)
Trinket
Use: Safely transport yourself to Toshley's Station in Blade's Edge! Nothing to worry about while using this baby! Gnomish know-how will get you there in a safe and timely fashion!
Cooldown: 4 hrs
Trainer: To learn speak to Smiles o' Byron nearby at Razor Ridge, just north of the outpost.

Transporter malfunction side-effects here include:

(350) Nigh Invulnerability Belt
Cloth, 223 Armor, +21 Stamina
Use: Protects you with a shield of force that stops 4000 damage for 8 sec.
"Protection not always valid. In RARE cases wearer may take additional damage."
Cooldown: 5 min
Useful, but very expensive

(375) Gnomish Power Goggles (Epic)
Cloth, 132 Armor, +21 Intellect
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 59.
Equip: Increases your spell critical strike rating by 28 (1.3%).
Tempting for any engineering caster, I think, given you can learn it any level 50!

(375) Gnomish Battle Goggles (Epic)
Leather, 249 Armor, +21 Stamina
Equip: Increases attack power by 100.
Equip: Increases your critical strike rating by 28 (1.3%).
Score 1 (at least) for the Gnomes!
Again, if you have the gold to spare, suitably nice for any DPS engineer, given you can learn it any level 50!
